Traditionally, men are front and center in far-right movements, as leaders, militants, and ideologues. Nevertheless, women occupy a critical role in these scenes both as actors and as symbols. This panel addresses the under-explored female spaces in far-right movements and ties them back to fragile masculine identities.

Please join CEMS and the Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality for a presentation by Dr. Heidi Beirich, founder of the Global Project Against Hate and Extremism and Dr. Kathleen Blee, of the University of Pittsburgh, as they discuss the role gender plays in the far-right through the Russian Anastasia Myth and the role of women in the Klu Klux Klan.

Introductory remarks will be made by Dr. Ruth Ben-Ghiat (NYU History).

Discussant: Dr. Emma Rosenberg (NYU CEMS)
