WHO WE ARE
The Center for the Study of Gender and Sexuality (CSGS) facilitates a broad interdisciplinary investigation of gender and sexuality as keys to understanding human experience through seminars, panel discussions, film screenings, exhibits and conferences throughout the academic year.

Founded in 1999, CSGS has been a hub for feminist and queer studies scholars, artists, and activists in the New York City region and beyond for over 25 years.
Our events are open to the public and provide a vibrant meeting place where scholars, students, artists, and activists come together to engage questions of gender and sexuality, and their intersections with race, religion, nation, class, ability, and ethnicity.
In 2021, CSGS launched the Mellon-funded Intersectional Feminist Queer Studies Collective, an initiative that supports collaborative research, programming, and public engagement across disciplines and communities.

“I want us to be a clearing house for the work on gender and sexuality that happens all over campus — but more than that, I’ve really tried to bridge campus and community life. We’re in downtown New York, and that’s sort of the center, in some ways, of queer and feminist activism, organizing, artistic production. I wanted us to really be part of the city in that way.”
